Curles, Golden eyes and a Great Night Out

Hello!
Hope the start of your week has been a good one! The other day, I was desperate to use my brand new curling iron (which I only purchased for $20!). I haven't owned...or used a curling iron for about 5 years so I had a lot of learning to do!

This is how my hair turned out...
I'm fairly happy with the curling, apart from my fringe, which refused to sit properly while I was taking these photos. I wanted my fringe to look semi curled as well, as instead of curling it, I used a straighener to crimp it.

I was heading out to dancing the night I created this look and I wanted to try something different to the usual brown smokey eye. I tried to focus my attention on the centre of the lids and thus used a sparkly gold colour to achieve this. I thought a maroon colour could compliment the gold colour and I placed this on the inner corner and outer corner of the eye.

As you can see, I used a light gold colour and a darker gold colour to apply to the centre of the lids. I felt like the combination worked well together. This is what it looked like up close :)

I applied a white matte colour along the brow bone to bring more light to this area. In terms of lips, I applied Pink Ambition by Face of Australia and a pink gloss on top. I also used the shimmery pink eye shadow (first pink at top of palette) on the cheeks, as blush. (I have run out of blush for the time being...)

If you have any additional comments or questions, please don't hesitate to ask me! Comment below, send me a message via twitter (@mgmusic91), or email me (beautifulyetbasic@gmail.com)! I love hearing all your thoughts and appreciate all your feedback :)

Plenty more to come-stay tuned!

Superhero and Villains Make up Part 1

Hello!
I thought it would be a good idea to step outside of my 'make up comfort zone' and try something a little different. As a child, my brother was (and still is) into comic books of all sorts. He would often purchase comic books, movies, and I would have to say his favourite place in the world was Movieworld on the Gold Coast. He taught me about all the different characters of DC and Marvel and I thought I would choose a superhero or villain and transform into them! (With a little help from my make up collection :P) You're more than welcome to try these looks...I would mainly recommend them for Halloween and dress up parties. :)

Part 1 of the Superhero and Villains make up will be CATWOMAN (from Batman of course!) Catwoman is one of my favourite characters from the batman series and I thought this would be a good one to start off with as I actually went as her for a Halloween party.

There are two ways to achieve this look. I wore the same thing in both looks, but my eyes are different. Here is how the Halloween Catwoman turned out:
Eyes: Traditional smokey eyes
Lips: Red/pink lips

As you can see, the eyes are traditional smokey eyes. I have done a tutorial on them, if you want to check it out, but in a nutshell, I chose a silver colour applied that on the inner corner and a black colour and applied that on the outer corner. Apply eyeliner on the upper and lower lash line, mascara and you're done!

This is the updated look:

As you can see, I blended the eye shadow outward, to achieve an almost 'cat eye' look...which is very appropriate!

Firstly, it's important to apply a base to the eye. I just used Mac paintpot in Painterly. If you have a cream based black eye shadow this would work perfectly too! I applied a neutral brown colour in my crease, to give the make up more dimension as I didn't want it to be just plain black.

I coloured my whole lid in black eye liner and winged it outwards. I then applied black matte eye shadow all over the lid to set the eye liner.

I reapplied the brown colour in the crease area. I lined my waterline and upper lash line and applied black eye shadow on the lower lash line.

By this stage I felt that the make up was a little too dark, so I applied a frosty white eye shadow on the inner corner and white eyeliner along the line where my eyebrows finish. (I thought the white eye liner would be more precise than eye shadow).

In terms of lips, a deep red colour is often preferred, but as I don't have any matte red products, I used Face of Australia in Pink Ambition. It's slightly shimmery, but I feel it created the necessary effect.

I hope you enjoyed this look-it's always fun dressing up! Please let me know if you have any other suggestions for superhero/villain make up-I'd love to do more, so if you have a favourite character let me know! I'll be running out of ideas soon enough haha.

Have a great day and as always there is heaps more to come, so stay tuned!

How I turned a disaster into something appropriate for work...

Hello!
I'm sure many of you have had those moments where you decide halfway through that the look you have created just isn't working. I had one of those moments this week. I was getting ready for work and I was in a bit of a rush. I thought I would do a matte purple smokey eye look, as I was wearing a purple top at the time. Halfway through, I had fallout all over my cheeks, my colours weren't blending well together and I felt like I didn't have time to start all over again. My confidence was deflated as nowdays I rarely start again and often just "go with the flow" but I decided to give it one more shot and apply a white frosty eye shadow all over the lids.

This is how it turned out...

As you can see, the eye shadow almost looks blue. I will admit...not my finest work, but non the less, a little bit of white eye shadow saved me a lot of time and a lot of make up remover...

The moral of the story...just add white? If you try this trick with other colours, let me know how it turns out-I'm really curious!

Hope you're having a great day! There is more to come so stay tuned! :)

A Touch of Gold...

Hello!
Hope you're all having a fabulous weekend! The make up look I am about to show you is a combination of shimmery whites and browns on the lids but to make it a little more 'sparkly', I added a gold shimmery eye shadow on the lower lash line.

All you need are three colours to create this look. The white shimmery colour on the inner corner, was also used on the brow bone. The brown colour was just used on the outer half of the eye and the outer portion of the lower lash line.

You can probably add any colour on the lower lash line but I thought gold in this instance was good match as I wanted the make up to go with my outfit. :)

I hope you enjoyed this simple look! If you have any further questions please let me know! Have a great day!
